The Design Process

To many people, web application development is often limited to what is called the "look and feel" of the pages that make up a complete web site. Things like colors, backgrounds, navigation buttons, etc. While the look of your site, reflecting a competent professional appearance is definitely important, we take the concept to a higher level. From initial concept through final delivery, we constantly evaluate and consider the marketing goals of the site providing you with a working sales tool.

Designing a web application is simply a process. You cannot just start laying out pages and expect to end up with a useable application. Your site design must first be very carefully planned in order to provide you with a new and exciting marketing tool that actually works.

Step 1 - Gathering Requirements

Start out by asking yourself a few questions:

  • What is the purpose of the web site?
  • What is it supposed to do?
  • What are the goals to be achieved?
  • What materials do I already have that can be presented on the web?  Things such as your company logo, product photo's and descriptions.

The more information you can gather in the beginning, the better. In order for us to develop a quality web application for you, we must understand your company, your image and your style of conducting business.

We can work with many types of information. Of course, the preferred method is to have all logo's, text and photo's provide to us in an original digital format. With the popularity of business software applications such as Microsoft Office as well as the use of digital cameras this can be easily accomplished. Providing information in this manner will save us time and therefore reduce the developments costs we will be charging.

We can also work from existing print media such as brochures and catalogs, or we can start from scratch by scheduling product photo sessions, logo design and writing the copy necessary for your site.

Step 2 - Organizing Information

  • Alphabetical
  • Chronological
  • Geographical
  • Topical
  • No So Obvious Methods

All of the information that you decide to present on the web must be in a clear and concise format. Have you ever visited a web site where you are sure the information you are searching for is there, but you cannot find it?  This happens quite often. We always put forth an extreme effort to organize your site in such a way that it easy for the web surfer to find what they are looking for or for you to present your primary goals where they will be seen immediately.

We normally ask that you prepare your ideas for the site in an outline format that shows this hierarchy.

Step 3 - Putting It All Together

Now that you have gathered and organized the information you would like to present, we will schedule an interview with you to review all of your requirements. Upon completion of this interview, we will provide you with a detailed proposal including a firm quotation that includes all costs associated in making your web site a reality. The quotation is normally done on a flat rate basis, although we do have other payment plans available such as lease to own. We don't believe in charging hourly rates in which your final cost becomes a huge surprise!

Should you decide to accept our proposal, we will have you up and running according to the time frame schedule that we committed to in the quote.

Good luck in your endeavor, we look forward to hearing from you soon.
